Torture crowns: are a form of clothing added by the Ideology DLC. They add pain, for those who want to suffer. Despite being called "crowns", they have no relation to Royals or more traditional crowns.
They can also occasionally be bought from bulk good traders.
Wearing a torture crown inflicts 5% pain on the wearer. It does no damage, and the pain will be removed the instant it is removed. This pain is just like pain from any other source, including its mood effects and effects on consciousness if stacked with other pain sources. The amount of pain inflicted is not independent of quality or material - all torture crowns will inflict the same amount of pain.

A torture crown will apply a 5% pain modifier. If the 'Pain: Idealized' precept is taken this translates to a +3 mood buff from zero pain. Masochist may receive mood buffs from pain crowns.
Psycasters will also increase their rate of neural heat recharge by ?. The fact that this can be removed easily makes this more attractive than other source of pain. If used in combat, consider pairing it with a shield belt or some cannon fodder as the crown does not provide significant armor, and will often provide none after weapon AP. Even high quality plasteel crowns are not particularly protective.
There is some merit to equipping slaves with the crown - while their mood debuff from the pain will make them rebel ever so slightly more often, they will also be slightly easier to safely down as they will be slightly closer to their pain shock threshold.
