About this board

I love the preview images you're adding to pages. They look great.

I'm sure you've noticed the use of icons (e.g. Chemfuel ) around the wiki in places like the infoboxes and the recipes in the Acquisition sections. At the moment, for things that can have materials from a whole class of material substituted in their recipes (i.e. stuffable things) we're using Stuff which is based on File:Buildingmats.png. Unfortunately that image is based on 0.14.1234 assets from a long time ago (we're in 1.3.3387 now) and isn't the pretties or the clearest. I was wondering whether you'd consider working your magic to make a replacement for it out of the current icons, and potentially ones for the individual categories of stuff (specifically Stony, Metallic, and Textiles [which could be used for both leathers and fabrics], and one for stuff as a whole [for multicategory stuffables] - no need for Woody because it only has Wood).

The only requirements would be that they clearly represent what they are at icon size (they'll have the mouse over text and link like the ones above do though) and Template:Icon Big size, and are clearly distinguishable from a specific single example of the category (so for example, Stony could be as simple as the three block pile like File:Slate_blocks.png but have each block a different color to distinguish it from being a specific simple type of stone blocks)

Absolutely no pressure. You do what you want to do, or enjoy doing. What you've already done ups our apparent production value by a ton and if you like doing that instead, please continue.

Just mark this topic as resolved (via the ... symbol top right) if you're not on board and prefer not to explain, and I'll consider the matter closed.

Cheers.

Sounds great, but I'm not sure how to "get into" the current graphics of the current version.

Harakoni (talkcontribs)

Three ways:

  1. Many of them are already uploaded to the wiki and we tried to keep everything nicely sorted in Category:Images and its child categories - there are still old assets in there so fair warning
  2. AssetStudio is pretty simple to use and can be used to extract textures from the .assets files in the install directly (I can provide a proper walk through if you go this route)
  3. You can just ask me for what you need and I can upload them here, or send them via the wiki discord or something? Both should preserve transparency and resolution.

One thing to keep in mind is that sometimes they color things via the in-game color system (think like how plate armor changes color based on material) and the extracted textures won't have that color if thats how its done (e.g. plasteels Plasteel texture is colored already, but leathers use a white texture that the game colors the relevant color. I can tell you the rgb codes of the colors as needed as well, and they should also be on the pages iirc) .

I appreciate this btw

Technically, I would need ALL the image files from the game. So I can just grab what I need. I'll try to get everything myself. I have put every image I uploaded in the 'images' category. I'm the lead web guy at the Songs of Syx wiki, so out of instinct, I like to add stuff to wikis of games I love.

Edit: Alright, I got Asset Studio working. I just need to know which files are the ones I need.

Edit2: Wait, I found the file. It's "resource.assets" I assume? I am gonna need those RGB codes or whatever. Or if you can tell me where to find them.

Harakoni (talkcontribs)

Right so via load file you're looking for the following.

Core: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RimWorld\RimWorldWin64_Data\resources.assets

Royalty: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RimWorld\Data\Royalty\AssetBundles\resources_royalty

Ideology: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RimWorld\Data\Ideology\AssetBundles\resources_ideology

If you've installed it some other way, or in another directory they might be slightly different.

Zippy (talkcontribs)

And how do I find these RGB code things?

Harakoni (talkcontribs)

On the material pages here on the wiki, click Technical in the info box (right hand side) and look for color.

You can also find the color in the material definitions in the .xmls (they're not exactly plaintext but they're readable by a layperson) in the rimworld directory at something like Data/Defs/ThingDefs_Misc C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RimWorld\Data\Core\Defs\ThingDefs_Items and then look in the relevant .xml

Something else I should slip in... You know about the Heroes Wiki and Villains Wiki? I added the Colonists and Raiders at those wikis respectively. The game is famous enough to have those pages, I figured it would bring more attention to the games. I hope I did those pages justice.

Harakoni (talkcontribs)

Oh neat, I've heard of them, but not really used them much myself. Pages look good though.

Zippy (talkcontribs)

Are there any pages you think need a good .gif?

Hi there, and welcome to the wiki! Its always great to be able to welcome experienced editors like yourself. The Syx wiki is gorgeous.

Just wanted to drop by, say hi, and say that animation was great and please feel free to add more haha. Adding gif and short video content is something I've been wanting to do more of, but time hasn't really allowed it. I'm a moderator around here, and the most active one, so if you need anything, just let me know!

Are you the owner of this wiki? If not, who is?

Harakoni (talkcontribs)

This is the official wiki, linked from the games main menu. Ludeon itself owns it.
