== Acquisition ==
Wort can be crafted by [[Work#Cook|cooks]] at a [[{{P|Production Facility 1}}]], which requires the [[Research#{{Q|Brewery|Required Research}}|{{Q|Brewery|Required Research}}]] research project to have been completed in order to be constructed. Each batch requires {{Required Resources}} and {{Ticks|{{P|Work To Make}}}} of work, and produces {{Icon small|{{PAGENAME}}||{{P|Product Amount}}}} wort. The amount of time it takes to complete the bill is determined by the colonist's [[Drug Cooking Speed]].

It can also rarely be found as loot at [[faction base]]s and quest sites alongside [[fermenting barrel]]s.

The sole purpose of wort is to produce [[beer]]. 1 wort item is converted into 1 beer at a [[fermenting barrel]]. [[Work#Haul|Haulers]] can fill barrels with up to 25 wort at a time. After  being put into the barrel, the fermentation process takes 6 days. 

If the fermenting barrel is left outside of a comfortable [[temperature]] zone, the fermenting process will be halted. Left in extreme temperature for too long, and the entire batch will be ruined. No wort or beer can be recovered in this case.

You can fill a barrel with less than 25 wort, but adding wort after will delay progress (proportional to wort added). For example, if you add 5 wort to a barrel containing 5 wort, progress will be halved.

== Analysis ==
Wort sells for less than beer or even its composite [[hops]], so its only real purpose is to be part of the brewing process. It is recommended to set a wort stockpile near your fermenting barrels and/or [[brewery]] stations.

Unrefrigerated wort rots in only a few days, so be careful with storage. Usually, it is best to put wort into a fermenting barrel immediately. Unless you don't have enough barrels to ferment all the wort, there's little point in keeping it raw.
