Acquisition
Columns are  capable of supporting roofing up to 6 tiles away in all directions. If a wall is destroyed or deconstructed, any unsupported roofing will instantly fall and injure any pawn below it, possibly fatally.
Columns require Required Resources and take to build.

Summary
+
In this way they are similiar to walls. In contrast to walls, they provide significantly less cover, can be shot over/through, don't block LoS or Line of Effect, and can be walked though without even slowing a pawn down. They are also somewhat beautiful, have less HP and require significantly more resources than a wall.
Columns can hold roofs up to 6 tiles away in all directions, like a wall. Destroying all of a roof's supports will cause it to instantly fall, injuring and possibly killing anything below. Columns also provide a minor beauty increase.

Columns can't usually be stood on, similar to a fence or barricade. Columns do not block LoS, can be walked through without slowing anyone down, and provide 25% cover for pawns shooting behind them.
+
Columns are built and repaired by colonists assigned to Construct. Columns construction may sometimes fail and waste the materials, more often with lower construction skill.

Requirements
+
They are required for NoblesRoyaltyIcon of Knight or above.
Columns are needed to satisfy the requirements of a ritual roomIdeologyIcon or throne room RoyaltyIcon (for nobles Knight and above). If a room's requirements are not met, then colonists demanding them will become unhappy.

Analysis
+
Acquisition
For holding up a roof, it's usually better to just create a lone wall, which supports the same number of roof tiles and costs 4x less. Columns provide less cover for raiders, can be walked over, and don't block the radius of orbital trade beacons. Columns also have much less health than a wall, which can be helpful when creating a falling roof trap.
+
Columns require Required Resources and take to build.

+
Analysis
Like sandbags, barricades, and fences, columns usually prevent raiders from firing on top of them. As columns provide less cover, they have a small niche in killboxes when you can directly fire on raiders passing through. Unlike the aforementioned structures, columns do not slow down pawns walking through, which may also be helpful. Note that, due to their decreased health, columns are easier to destroy, so should be replaced by barricades when you have enough firepower.
+
Columns are useful for stockpiles as they do not block the radius of Orbital trade beacons, unlike walls. On the other hand, they are 4 times more expensive.

Styles
No category

Ideoligions allow the selection of styles which then change the texture of the certain items and buildings when constructed by the colony. These style variants can be crafted if the colony has the selected style, or can be looted from raiders from factions with the requisite style.
