What do you mean by misinformation? If the spine is left alone for too long without destruction it will reform into a Revenant.

It's also very possible you've discovered a bug introduced in the recent patches. Don't stress - i just wanted to make sure it wasn't a misunderstanding first. I'll check it out tomorrow if I get the chance
Can confirm, revenant have their spine "hum" and then they re-emerge. Took a while to get time to test. sorry about that.
