Talk:Clearance/Differences between clearance and space

I made a post on the Rimworld subreddit about this but I thought I should post it here as well. I was wondering what's the differences between clearance and the space stat given by the room inspection tool added in A12. After doing tests it seems the value for space given by the room inspection tool is calculated differently from how Thoughts calculate space for cramped/spacious related thoughts. The "Levels of Clearance" on the CURRENT version of the page seem to actually correspond with the space values and classification given by the room inspection tool. The "Measuring clearance" values in the CURRENT version of the page seem to be correct when relating to space related Thoughts. The space stat seems to be calculated with integers (i.e. 1 or 0 rather than 0.5). See the table below for my current results for how furniture effects this calculation.

Also I believe the space related thoughts should be added to this page as they are highly relevant, especially since it seems the current pages calculations are only relevant to colonist's thoughts. My testing also conflicts with the thoughts page on when certain thoughts occur. My testing indicates:

  • Cramped environment occurs in a room with an area below 21.
  • No space thoughts occur in a room with an area of 21 to 49.
  • Spacious interior occurs in a room with an area greater than 49.

Here's a list of how different pieces of furniture effect how the room inspection tool seems to calculate space:

Furniture Space cost Space cost per tile
Bed 2 1
Hospital bed 2 1
Animal sleeping box 1 1
Lamp 1 1
Pot 1 1
Vitals monitor 1 1
Large table 8 1
Small table 4 1
Equipment rack 2 1
