Pawn (talkcontribs)

One page isn't so good even if the differences are minor.

As in split off the animal plague onto its own page? Sounds like a good idea to me. Plague (Animal) would be the correct page name if you want to attempt it, otherwise you can use Template: Move (we don't have a dedicated split template) to indicate the need for a split. Something like {{Move|destination=Plague (Animal)|reason=Split animal and human plague pages}} would work.

Hordes (talkcontribs)

I don't think it's necessary. Humans & animals can get the plague at the same time (iirc), if the symptoms being the same wasn't big enough. Having it as 1 page is more convienent to search for than 2.

It's literally a change in 2 values, both which can be summed up as "animals are more resistant to disease", and it's not like the page is bloated. If you were playing the game with zero idea of the code, then plague (human) and plague (animal) would be exactly the same, just that animals gain immunity faster.

Personally I don't really mind either way. Eventually if we decide to add properties to the disease pages it might be helpful to have two pages but thats not in the cards atm and it can be done if and when its necessary.

If its ok, I'll let you two hash it out and come to a consensus.

Posted here to justify the organization of all (fatal) disease section ordering.

  • First comes the Overview, a top-level description. This is fairly obvious to put first, and gives the reader very fast facts about what the disease does and how threatening it is.
    • "Penoxycyline stops the disease" should belong in the overview. It gets its own subsection, Prevention, so that it is easier to find. This means that prevention is far away from treatment.
  • Second comes the Stages. Stages are what people want to know, people are looking up. They are the disease itself. They are what the disease actually does, and affirms that it is fatal.
  • Third comes Progression. Progression helps define the numbers used in Stages, so can't be put any later. The disease itself is more important than some random numbers determining how fast it goes. The only difference between pawns and animals (for Plague/Flu) is the progression numbers, so there is no need for a Animals section other than for progression.
  • Lastly comes Treatment. It sucks that it is the last section, but stages are more important and progression is needed to explain treatment.

No, thats excellent and once a couple of things are hashed out, I might put a copy of this up as a page standard.

Some comments:

  1. Something is always going to be last and every aspect is important, treatment is fine there. Thats what the ToC is for, and as long as its consistent its fine.
  2. Fatal or not, all diseases should follow the same ordering. Makes it a ton easier for everyone, editors and readers alike, if everything is in the same place on every page.
  3. It might be an idea to include some information about the acquisition rates. Different diseases have different "Habitats" and different commonalities. I belive the commonalities are stored in Data\Core\Defs\BiomeDefs
  4. Subheadings like "Minor - Severity: 0 - 0.59" are messy in the ToC, annoying to link to from other pages and don't always play nice with link sharing. It would be better to have it the subheading be "Minor" and the severity information in the body below, likely above and not part of the bulletpoint lists.
  5. There should probably be at least some explanation of the two Extremes beyond just the headings. A new player might not understand that they're both shown as "Extreme" but are two different stages, or might not understand that it shouldn't show up as Extreme (initial), or might just think that the wiki is wrong because it doesn't appear to reflect whats in game.
  6. It might also be best to separate out the editorialize sections from the facts in treatment - e.g.
This disease can be cured by
  • Biosculpt
  • Luci
  • Operation
  • Natural immunity gain
<Insert analysis of how long natural immunity gain takes to cure, and who needs to use other methods to survive here>
This keeps all the information clearly accessible and you don't have to read through analysis to get to basic facts.

Happy to hear thoughts/debate/disagreement on the above. But otherwise, its excellent.
