Steel is the primary resource for mid to late game construction, and is therefore vital. Without steel, you cannot build new power generators, conduits, batteries, temperature regulators like coolers and heaters, or turrets and sandbags, so ensure that you have a steady supply. Steel appears at your crash site when a new game is started. After this steel is exhausted, it can be obtained through random drops, trading, mining, disassembling mechanoids, or smelting steel slag chunks into usable steel at an Electric smelter.
