Rice is a form of raw food harvested from rice plants, one of the four food crops your colonists can grow in growing zones. Unless your colonist has the Ascetic trait, they will dislike eating raw rice, so it should be used to make meals.
Rice is the most sensitive food crop in regards to soil fertility. When planted in rich soil or hydroponics basins, it provides an extremely fast food source. Planting it in gravel or other poor soil types will result in very slow growth, making it a bad choice for deserts and other biomes with substandard growing conditions.
