Poplar tree

A softwood tree that grows very fast. Unfortunately, its wood is weak and so it yields less useful material than hardwood trees.

Poplar trees are a plant that naturally occurs in arid shrublands, boreal forests, deserts, and temperate forests. Poplar trees can also be grown by the player in any biome, but can't be sown in hydroponics. A mature poplar tree yields 30 wood.

Growing

Poplar trees have a base growing time of 15.05 days, need a minimum soil fertility of 30%, and have a fertility sensitivity rating of 50%. The following table details how long it takes for poplar trees to grow in each growable ground type, factoring in the plant resting time and being in ideal growing conditions:

Ground Type Gravel Soil Rich Soil Hydroponics
Fertility (%) 70 100 140 230
Grow Time (days) 30.58 26 21.66 -
Base Yield/day[1] 0.98 1.15 1.38 -
  1. Per plant

It goes without saying that poplar trees are the best trees to farm for wood in the game, owing to its superior yield per day compared to all other player-growable trees. The only 'tree' that has a superior yield per day compared to poplar when growing in gravel or soil is the saguaro cactus - but that plant is exclusive to the wilds, and the poplar tree is still better in rich soil.

Food Production

Poplar trees don't yield any human-edible products.

Economy

The poplar tree's raw product is wood, which has a market value of 1.4 silver. The refined product with the largest profit margin is a grand sculpture, having a 51.25%[1] profit margin. The following table details silver per day, per plant. It only factors in the 50% selling markdown; the market value of the products; and the yield per day:

Ground Type Gravel Soil Rich Soil Hydroponics
Raw 0.69 0.81 0.97 -
Refined 1.04 1.22 1.47 -
