Thus, it is almost entirely irrelevant as protective clothing. Additionally, its poor heat insulation make it unattractive in hot [[biomes]], except where bulk textiles of any sort are the primary requirement. Only its cold insulation provides utility in cold biomes, and in many of them other less insulative but more protective textiles will suffice. However, its ease of production and good insulation can make bison wool [[parka]]s or skin-layer apparel an easy way to provide winter clothing to a colony, and possibly sufficient to avoid sacrificing any other aspects of their outfit. Compared to other [[wools]], which largely fill the same niche bison wool is likely the worst but only marginally - with bison having the slowest Per Day production rate, while eating more than [[sheep]] and [[alpaca]]s. Bison wool also ties for the worst cold insulation of any of the wool types and while [[sheep wool]] has slightly worse heat insulation, neither textile should be used if heat insulation is required.

Care should be taken as, like other wools in RimWorld, it is exceptionally flammable.

Bison wool is a type of fabric gathered by animal handlers by shearing tamed bison.

Acquisition

Bison wool is acquired by shearing tamed bison - each bison can be sheared every 15 days for 120 wool, for an average of 8 per day.

It can also be purchased from traders.

Analysis

Along with the other wools, bison wool has the second worst protective stats of any textile in the game, tying cloth in sharp/blunt armor, and only beating by virtue of heat armor. But like other wools, bison wool excels against the cold, offering the 8th best cold insulation. In comparison, its heat insulation is poor, at 19th place. Outside of the extreme cold, it may be wiser to use a less insulative, but more protective clothing.

Therefore, wool clothes are largely used in cold biomes, namely in parkas and other heavy clothes. Compared to other wools, bison wool has the worst cold insulation, tied with sheep wool. Bison also have the worst Per Day production of wool while eating more than sheep or alpacas. However your colony might only have bison available, especially if they are already a pack animal.

As furniture, it has a marginally better beauty factor than other common textiles. Care should be taken, as all wools in RimWorld are exceptionally flammable.

Trivia

Contrary to wool in real life, wool in RimWorld is more flammable than cotton, rather than less.
