The backstory defines the skills and restrictions of the colonist in question and is divided into two parts, childhood and adulthood. The backstory may either enhance or impair the colonists competence regarding specific skills. Currently there are over one hundred childhood backstories and about thirty adult backstories. Several adult backstories are not available in the character creation phase, however they do randomly appear on raiders and wanderers.
