The EMP mortar is a stationary defense mechanism which, when manned, launches mortar shells at any enemy pawns which enter its firing range. It will target any raiders, mechanoids, and psychotic animals which enter within a 500-tile radius around the mortar. It will not fire at enemies within 30 tiles.



The EMP mortar is a 1-round artillery weapon. 5.8-second warmup time, 35 second cooldown time and a 12-tile forced miss radius. Upon impact, it will stun mechanoids, improvised turrets and mortars, and fully deplete personal shields in a 8.5-tile radius.


When a mortar is severely damaged, it will explode.


There is no way to increase mortar accuracy, but due to the EMP mortar's large radius, reliable shelling can be done using a few mortars. Do not forget to unassign pawns from mortars, or they will become exhausted, starve, and potentially suffer a mental break.


EMP mortars may also be built in mortar and incendiary mortar varieties. All mortar varieties must be placed in an unroofed area to fire.


Strategy

EMP mortars are highly situational, as they cannot deal any physical damage.


However, their ability to stun mechanoids and down shields are extremely useful. Stunned mechanoids cannot fight back at all, making them sitting ducks to your colonists; melee fighters without their shields can be destroyed easily simply by firing from a distance.


They are highly devastating against sieges, as they can stun the enemy mortars and detonate the mortar shells easily.
