In RimWorld, your colonists are able to create buildings from the ground up. As of Alpha 7 and 8 structures can be made from a

variety of materials, each giving a range of attributes. Enclosed areas will generate a constructed roof unless you apply a no roof region, A roof can be held up up to 5 squares from a structure, making a 10x10 interior the largest possible without a brace.[as of alpha v11 a room can be 13x13 with 12 empty space vertical and horizontal]

Doors

Divides rooms. Must be manually opened and closed, which slows people down.

Autodoors

Divides rooms. Powered operation allows people to move through doors without slowing down, with the exception of stone doors. Requires a constant 50W charge to operate. Powered doors open four times as quickly, but if un-powered it acts just like a standard door. It has the same max hit points of a standard door of the same material. (Powered doors require at least ~57.69% base speed for no slow down, while un-powered require 4x that speed, excluding them all.)
