A '''stool''' allows a colonist to sit and eat if there's a table in front of it. Stools can also be placed in front of production tables to provide comfort while crafting. Stools can be made from various materials, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

A stool is a type of furniture which your colonists can sit on. Stools can be placed at tables to allow your colonists to eat there; in front of televisions to let them watch; or in front of production benches to provide comfort as they work, improving their mood and allowing them to work longer before needing a break.

Comparison

Stools are the least effective form of seating in the game. They provide significantly less comfort than dining chairs or armchairs, but require a fraction of the materials and work to build, making them ideal for resource-scarce early games.

Unlike the other seats, they can also be made from almost any material.

Alternative Usage

Stools have the dubious distinction of providing only 20% cover. While this seems like a purely negative trait, it makes stools very effective at luring raiders into very poor defensive positions.
