Corn plant

A large grain plant which produces ears of delicious yellow seeds. Takes a relatively long time to grow, but yields lots of food, and takes a long time to spoil. Needs fertile soil to grow well.

Corn can be eaten raw but colonists will receive a -7 penalty to mood for eating raw food. Needs fertile soil to grow well. Requires 11.3 days of growth (or 20.55 days when accounting for nightly resting period) with full light and within temperature range to mature. Can only be grown in the growing zone. It is unable to grow in a hydroponics basin.

A plant that when harvested yields up to 13 cloth at full maturity. The description states that it produces cotton to turn into cloth, but like any other textile it can be used for crafting right away.

Devilstrand mushroom

This fragile mushroom was genetically engineered to produce a silk net of the highest grade. Long rumored to have mystical properties, it owes its name to the greed it inspires in people.

The extremely long growth time and small harvest makes devilstrand mushrooms the most difficult crop to grow in the game by far. Players must be prepared to set aside huge patches of land to grow any useful amount of devilstrand. These mushrooms can't be grown in hydroponics basins. Players must additionally protect this crop from wildfires, raider arson, poison ships, hungry wildlife, and even hungry pets. Due to their long growth time, devilstrand is usually at a risk of succumbing to the cold of winter before it's ready for harvest. However, when fully grown, devilstrand cloth is highly valuable and can sell for lots of silver. Because of its growing and security issues, players might be best off growing them in a temperature controlled outdoor building with sun lamps.

Haygrass

A mixture of nutrient-rich grasses which yield large amounts of hay. Hay is edible for animals, but not humans.

Haygrass is an ideal feed for your animals. It produces significantly more nutrition per day than other plants, even more efficient than corn and rice. Most omnivorous animals can't eat it before it is processed into kibble.

Potato plant

A simple, highly nutritious tuber. Grows well even in somewhat poor soil. Harvests quickly. A strong, versatile crop.

The Potato Plant is ideal for growing in soil with poor fertility (i.e. gravel) as a substitute to the rice or corn plants. It takes an average amount of time to grow and produces an average amount of food. It can be planted in the growing area or hydroponics basin - the latter for which you won't see much benefit for due to the plant's high tolerance to ground fertility. Yields 14 potatoes at 100% growth. Requires 5.8 days (or 10.55 days when accounting for nightly resting period) with full light in optimal temperature range to reach maturity.

Rice plant

A low grain plant that thrives in rich soil and yields food fast, but is not nice to eat uncooked.

Rice plants are sensitive to soil fertility and will grow much faster than other plants when in extremely fertile soil. In a hydroponics basin with ideal light and temperature, growth rate reaches 230%, compared to ~150% of other plants. However, if planted in soil with less than 100% fertility, such as gravel, a rice plant may randomly die during growth and only a small percentage survive long enough to harvest. When fully grown, a rice plant yields up to 7 rice.

Strawberry plant

A fragile but tasty fruit. Delicious even when raw.

A strawberry plant is a leafy bush that grows large, fleshy red berries that can be planted in growing zones by your colonists. Unlike wild raspberries, strawberry plants are completely removed when harvested and must be replanted to be harvested again. Strawberries are greatly affected by fertility of the environment, and as such, they are best suited to be grown in Hydroponics basins, where their yield outperforms all other crops except rice. Mainly useful because the berries they yield don't have to be cooked to prevent negative thoughts.
