See all pages under construction.

The backstory defines the skills and restrictions of the colonist in question and is divided into two parts, childhood and adulthood. All colonists will have a childhood backstory, as well as an adulthood one if old enough. The backstory may either enhance or impair the colonists competence regarding specific skills. Currently there are over one hundred childhood backstories and about thirty adult backstories. Several adult backstories are not available in the character creation phase, however they do randomly appear on raiders and wanderers.

Pawns generated below age 20 have no adulthood backstory.

It is possible to buy a DLC that allows addition of a backstory or character into the game. As a result, some backstories are always together, in a colonist that always has the same name.
