Nudity is a concept and mechanic in RimWorld that relates to a number of moodlets and opinion modifiers based on how clothed a pawn is.

Mechanics

Nudity has two effects, a mood effect on the nude pawn, and a negative social opinion modifier of the nude pawn for every other (non-nudist) pawn. The exact mechanics are very different depending on if the Ideology DLC is enabled, so they will be described separately below.

CoreContent from Rimworld core game only

Colonists require some amount of clothing to avoid the Naked −6 thought [Check]. The required clothing varies based on Gender. A male colonist requires clothing that covers the legs in order to not be considered nude. A female colonist requires clothing that covers both the legs and the torso in order to not be considered nude.

IdeologyContent added by the Ideology DLC

Ideology DLC completely changes the nudity mechanic. What clothing is required is determined in the ideology's precepts, and is defined separately for male and female colonists. If their clothing requirement is not met, colonists will get a −4 mood debuff. If another pawn doesn't meet the colonist's personal clothing requirement they will have a −10 social opinion modifier of the pawn, irrelevant of the other's ideology. The name of these debuffs change based on what body part is exposed.

There are 7 precept options:

  • Fully nude
  • Pants at most
  • No rules
  • Pants
  • Pants and shirt
  • Pants, shirt, and hat
  • Fully covered

The first 2 options define the maximum amount of clothing that is acceptable to wear. Pawns with the 'Fully nude' precept have the same clothing allowances as nudists (see below for more information), and with the 'Pants at most' precept they will also permit clothes that cover the legs. Unlike nudists, they gain no mood from being nude, and will have negative opinion of others who wear clothes. Uniquely, these options have a 12 hour long "Wore clothes" −4 mood debuff after they remove their clothing.

No rules, as implied, disables all nudity considerations, including mood and social consequences.

The other 4 options define increasing levels of required body coverage, in the order: legs, torso, head, face. Of these, the face (Full covered) is especially punishing, as few clothing items cover both the head and face, severely limiting your options for headgear.

Nudist

The Nudist trait removes the need for clothing. Each clothing has a "Clothing (for nudity)" statistic in the information panel. Nudists are able to wear clothing listed as "Clothing (for nudity): No", without losing their +20 Nudist Naked thought. This includes all headgear, as well as the sash and heavy bandolier. Nudists do not judge others for any level of nudity or clothedness.

With IdeologyContent added by the Ideology DLC enabled, the nudist pawn will be mostly unaffected by ideologion clothing precepts, though other pawns will still get a negative social thought against the nudist. The exception is ideologies with the precept choices of Fully nude and Pants at most. Nudist pawns of these ideologies will get the negative social thought towards clothed pawns.

FurskinContent added by the Biotech DLC

Biotech DLC has the gene Furskin which overrides base game and Ideology clothing requirements. A pawn with furskin will not receive negative mood for being naked, nor will others have a negative social opinion of them. Nudist pawns (through trait or ideology) with furskin do still consider themselves to be naked.
